Issues & Platform

A Clear Plan for Aurora's Future

Omar's platform is built on listening to Aurora residents and delivering real results on the issues that matter most.

01

Economic Growth

Good Jobs, Strong Businesses, Shared Prosperity, a Destination City

Omar's vision is to make Aurora a destination city for all, from working families to visitors from near and far. Omar will cut red tape for small businesses, attract quality employers, and make sure Aurora workers have access to the training and opportunities they need to thrive.

  • Streamline permitting and licensing for small businesses
  • Partner with Aurora Community College on workforce training programs
  • Attract employers who offer living wages and benefits
  • Support minority- and women-owned businesses with city contracts
02

Public Safety

Keeping Every Neighborhood Safe

Aurora deserves a public safety strategy that works for everyone. Omar will invest in community policing, expand mental health crisis response teams, and work with neighborhoods to address the root causes of crime — not just the symptoms.

  • Hire and retain qualified officers with competitive pay and training
  • Expand the RADAR mental health co-responder program citywide
  • Create neighborhood safety councils with real community input
  • Invest in youth programs that open up opportunities for today and tomorrow
  • Omar supports public safety accountability through an indepdendent monitor.
03

Community Investment

Every Neighborhood Deserves to Thrive

From parks to schools to roads, Aurora's infrastructure needs investment — especially in neighborhoods that have been overlooked for too long. Omar will make sure city resources reach every corner of Aurora.

  • Repair and upgrade roads, sidewalks, and parks in underserved areas
  • Expand affordable housing options for working families
  • Invest in Aurora's public library system and community centers
  • Improve city services responsiveness in all neighborhoods
04

Housing

Homes Aurora Families Can Afford

Whether you rent or own, are just starting out or growing older here, you deserve a home you can afford in the city you love. Housing costs are the biggest pressure on Aurora family budgets. Rents and home prices have climbed faster than paychecks, and too many residents are one emergency away from losing their homes. Omar believes an affordable home is the foundation for everything else: good health, success in school, a steady job and a strong community.

  • Build more affordable homes, cut red tape and update zoning to deliver starter homes, townhomes, and ADUs
  • Support emergency rental aid and legal assistance to keep families in their homes
  • Launch community land trusts and homebuyer classes to help renters build wealth
  • Help older Coloradans age in place with assistance for home repairs and connecting them to property tax relief
  • Connect Housing to Transit: Build mixed-income homes near Colfax and the R Line to slash commutes
  • Address assisting the unhoused with dignity by partnering with counties, faith organizations, and nonprofits to expand shelter and stable housing
05

Community Health

Healthy Families, Healthy Community

Health is part of affordability. Federal cuts to SNAP and Medicaid are putting Aurora families at risk. When a family loses food assistance or health coverage, they skip meals and doctor visits — and the costs ripple through our hospitals, schools, businesses and city services. Aurora can't solve this alone, but with the right partners we can protect families and make sure every Aurora community has every opportunity to thrive.

  • Partner across county, state, and federal levels to win grants for local health, nutrition, and family programs
  • Advocate fiercely at all levels of government to defend SNAP and Medicaid access for our residents
  • Increase counseling, crisis services, and recovery support while actively promoting the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line
  • Respond to the opioid crisis with regional abatement councils to bring settlement dollars home for local prevention and treatment
  • Unite our communities by working with schools, businesses, faith organizations, and nonprofits to deliver accessible health services in the languages our residents speak
06

Veterans & Military Families

Honoring Those Who Serve

Aurora is home to Buckley Space Force Base, the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center, and thousands of veterans, service members and military families. They have served our country, and they make Aurora stronger every day.

  • Protect Buckley's Mission to safeguard base operations through smart zoning and joint utility management
  • Expand Open Space Buffers: Use federal REPI grants to protect acreage and build trails along local creeks
  • Leverage Buckley to anchor defense employers and transition veterans into local civilian careers
  • House Veterans & Military Families: Advocate for projects like Aurora ONE for more housing options and partner with the VA, counties, and community-based organizations to work to end veteran homelessness
  • Connect Buckley families to local resources including the Rocky Mountain VA, the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line, childcare, and spousal employment
  • Honor Local Heroes: Maintain deep city partnerships with the Colorado Freedom Memorial and Korean War Memorial

Celebrating Diversity

Our Diversity Is Aurora's Strength

Aurora is the most diverse city in Colorado and one of the most diverse in the country. It's home to families with deep roots here and to immigrants and refugees from around the world — more than 160 languages are spoken in our schools. Our cultures, languages, faiths and traditions are part of our shared heritage, and they make Aurora stronger. Omar believes every resident deserves to be treated with dignity, and every community deserves a fair shot at opportunity. In divisive times, Aurora can show how a diverse city comes together.

  • Support the local festivals, arts, and international business districts that make Aurora a global cultural hub
  • Ensure city government treats every resident with dignity, upholds due process, and guarantees a safe environment for all
  • Unlock Economic Opportunity: Connect immigrant and refugee entrepreneurs to the capital, licensing, and resources needed to launch and grow businesses
  • Create an inclusive community where both young people starting out and older Coloradans aging in place can thrive
  • Unite Our Neighborhoods: Invest in community events, interfaith gatherings, and local programs that bring diverse backgrounds together

Omar's Experience

As Board Chair of the Village Exchange Center, Omar works alongside one of Aurora's most diverse communities to expand opportunity for families, immigrants, refugees and entrepreneurs.

Your City Hall

A Government That Works With You

Most Aurorans have never been asked what they think. City hall should work for the people it serves — but too often, residents find out about decisions after they're made, meetings are held when working families can't attend, and getting a simple answer takes too many phone calls. Omar will open city hall's doors, bring government to every neighborhood, and manage taxpayer dollars with care, because the best ideas for Aurora come from the people who live here.

  • Deliver efficient services and smart partnerships to meet community needs without raising costs
  • Host evening and weekend neighborhood meetings with childcare and language translation so everyone is heard
  • Launch a clear, user-friendly online budget tracker showing exactly how your tax dollars are spent
  • Form resident advisory groups on housing, safety, and development that report directly to city council
  • Speed up answers, simplify online permitting, and hold city agencies accountable with public timelines
  • Open seats on city boards for young leaders to learn government and shape Aurora's future
  • Ensure city contracts are awarded through a transparent, competitive procurement process that gives qualified and diverse local businesses a genuine opportunity to compete
"The best ideas for Aurora won't come from city hall. They come from the people of Aurora."

Omar's Experience

As a member of Aurora's Citizens Advisory Budget Commission, Omar has reviewed the city's budget and priorities firsthand. He'll bring that experience to keeping city government accountable to residents.

Environment

Protecting What Makes Aurora Great

Aurora's water, open spaces and clean air are part of what makes this a great place to live. As our city grows, we have a responsibility to protect them for our children and grandchildren. Growth is coming whether we plan for it or not. Omar's approach is smart growth: build the infrastructure before the rooftops, put our water first, and hold new industry to Colorado's highest environmental standards.

  • Drive strict water conservation and reuse policies, requiring all new developments and businesses to safeguard our long-term supply
  • Ensure new growth pays its fair share so roads, schools, and utilities are built before neighborhoods open
  • Expand and connect public green spaces so every local family has parks and trails within reach
  • Fund energy-saving upgrades for homes and small businesses while cutting pollution near schools and neighborhoods
  • Build safer sidewalks, protected bike lanes, and stronger transit links to give residents better ways to community
  • Ensure grid expansion costs are covered by the large energy uses and not working families and older Coloradans through rising utility bills.
